Very good, cloth slightly worn at heel and crown, light rubbing and faint soil to boards. Ink ownership on front flyleaf, above which is the pencil ownership of journalist James Ford. WITH COLLECTION OF SIGNED LETTERS TO JAMES FORD. Price and Ford, who worked in the Education Department at Boston Public Library, corresponded often in the late fifties/early sixties; we offer a series of 15 typed and manuscript letters and postcards from Price to Ford, including a few Christmas cards, from 1957 to 1963. Price died in 1965. A few letters from Price's colleagues after his death to Ford as well. 1. Jan 1 1957: Handwritten postcard. Thanks for an unidentified gift/letter. "Meanwhile let's start getting acquainted (I am [?] by a cold); the enclosed is about me; now how about you. Come clean! I have." Referring to Price's book "Litany for All Souls?" 2. Oct. 29 1957. Typed signed letter with envelope. Warm praise for a piece written by Ford. 3. Dec. 3 1957. Handwritten note about publication of a piece by Ford. 4. Christmas Day 1957. Decorated notecard with gilt, red and green floral motif. Note about the piece not having been published. Christmas greetings. 5. Oct. 14 1958. Typed signed letter with envelope: the newspaper business, piece published by Ford, Price's "Winged Sandals" and his latest reading-table stack of books. 6. Oct. 20 1958. Typed signed letter with envelope. Death of Mary M. Colum, books, philosophy of humility (Tennyson's "Holy Grail"). 7. Dec. 29 1958. Handwritten letter with envelope: Ford's new position at BPL, Price's readership. 8. Dec. 26 1959. Handwritten postcard with envelope: Thanks for a letter; a quotation remembered (not given) from a "then fictitious book." 9. Apr. 25 1960. Handwritten note with envelope: Laughter, irony as undefinable, Sophocles and Aeschylus. 10. Dec. 12 1960. Christmas Card. Seeking of "spiritual sustenance...
