Two volumes, complete. Contemporary brown 3/4 leather binding with marbled boards. Gilt lettering on spine. 5 1/2' x 8 1/2." Two maps, one is missing, likely a frontispiece folding map that would have been in Volume I. One black-and-white folding map in Volume II. The map is titled, "A Plan of Charles Town, from a survey of Edwd. Crisp, in 1704." All pages of each volume, complete, except for the one missing map. Volume I: 478 pages. Volume II: 602 pages and one folding map. Pages and covers are very clean and intact overall. Binding is tight. Covers have slight corner and edge wear and some surface cracking along the outer joints. Pages are age-toned with slight offsetting limited to the edges and title page of Volume II facing the map. Very Good copies. A history of South Carolina from 1670-1808. Bookplate of "William Arnold Bromfield" on the front pastedown of both volumes. Bookplate was engraved by "W. West" and shows a coat of arms. Inscription written in black ink by Bromfield also in the top margin of each title page: "Wm. Arnold Bromfield, Charleston S.C. May 25th (?) 1847." William Arnold Bromfield (1801-1851) was an English botanist who made significant contributions to his field of study through his careful and detailed approach in researching, collecting, and describing plant specimens. Bromfield was well-traveled as his is scientific research took him to many different places. Among the countries he visited to study and collect plant specimens were Scotland, Ireland, Canada, the United States, Jamaica, and Egypt.. Book. Book Condition: Very Good. Binding: Hardcover
