Original publisher's green cloth binding with gilt lettering on front cover and spine and a gilt illustrated portrait of William Dempster Hoard on the front cover. Former ownership inscription on front pastedown in black ink: "Property of Arnold Zaugg, Bonner, Montana." Pages and covers are very clean and intact. Binding is tight. Covers and spine have very slight rubbing to the surfaces and edge wear. Upper-right corner of front cover slightly bumped. A Near Fine copy. A biography of William Dempster Hoard (1836-1918), Governor of Wisconsin and a key figure in Wisconsin's dairy industry. Hoard is often called "the father of the Wisconsin dairy industry" due to his call for high standards, safety for consumers, scientific approaches to dairying, and other reformations to the industry as a whole. Hoard also established the first national dairy magazine, Hoard's Dairyman, which is still published to this day. Excerpt from the Foreword: "This book is dedicated to every man who follows in the footsteps of the dairy cow.
