SACK, Stephen (Curated by) : The Neglected Tradition. Towards a New History of South African Art 1930-1988

Johannesburg Art Gallery, 1991

A fine unread copy in a fine d.w. Now extremely scarce, this important exhibition monograph constitutes the first evaluation of the contribution of Black South African artists to the South African art mainstream, and as such is the starting point for contemporary art historiography in South Africa. This second edition, which constitutes the only hardcover issue, is the text of the first edition, save for typographical and factual corrections, and the inclusion of dates of death for artists who had died after 1988. It is scarcer than the first edition.
