Visually the exterior appearance is still acceptable for book's age and nature,i.e an unused reference book, and particularly internally, the book is in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation. It is only the exterior faults described that prevent a higher grading.Despite them,it really is an exceptional copy for reference. This volume the penulimate volume in hardback, published in 1939,as WW2 broke and after the following last hardback issue, publication continued, but in paperback form because of paper-rationing,lasting until the early to mid 1940s,as rationing finished in 1946/7 after war's end. An uncommon survivng 1st edn, future paper rationing aside - for surviving continued air-raids on domestic and commercial properties, i.e publishers+printers.
