Sullivan, Frank : Typed Letter Signed - Frank Sullivan

Typed letter on 7 1/8" x 10 1/8" paper. Dated March 23, 1935. It was typed in New York (the letter is typed on stationery from The New Yorker). Frank Sullivan (1892-1976) was an American writer and humorist. He was known for creating the character, Mr. Arbuthnot the Cliche Expert. Sullivan wrote his first article for The New Yorker in 1925, the year the newspaper was founded. In this letter to Mr. Gilman, Sullivan encourages him to see music performances outside of the Metropolitan and Carnegie Hall and lauds with much enthusiasm a recent movie he saw featuring a women's symphony orchestra: I saw a movie just yesterday of a ladies' sympony orchestra in Hollywood. One of the numbers was Ravel's 'Bolero,' The melody was sung by a lady hotcha crooner in a low quivering voice, while the background usually supplied by Solly Goodman, the Philharmonic tympanist was sung by the remaining members of the ladies' band in a refrain like this, 'dig-dig-adig-dig. Digging-dig dig dig.' I thought you might want to know about this.". Manuscript. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good. Binding: No Binding
