A linen-backed folding,motoring map of Malaya in original,slim 8vo khaki-ish paper-covered card covers with blue+white paper label with blue lettering pasted to front cover; with some inevitable shelf-wear to edges and corners - all corners bumped with reciprocal rubbing and minimal loss of paper covering - to same.Rear cover inevitably spotted,grubbed and marked,more so than the front board which is cleaner. Map dimensions approx. 83 x 62 cm (overall 87 x 66 cm)/34.1/2"tall x 26" wide,with a scale of 12 miles to an inch,red+black+blue colouring.The map folds 3 times horizontally and four times vertically - giving 20 folding panels.A key towards top right-hand corner of map,showing roads (in red),railways - both built and under
construction (in black & b/w),cart tracks (broken,black parallel lines),footpath (black dotted line) and state boundary (black dash and 3 dots line),coastline edged in blue.A chart in the lower left-hand corner shows distances between the main points of travel; e.g. Penang to Singapore,Malacca to Singapore etc., and vice versa.
A very,very uncommon and interesting map of what was British Malaya,from Kangar and Penang in the north-west to Singapore in the south.
