TOM STOPPARD : Lord Malquist and Mr. Moon. A novel

Anthony Blond, London, 1966

First Edition (first printing) of Stoppard's first and so far only novel. 8vo. 191pp. Red boards lettered in gold at the spine. Edges spotted and with some tape residue marking to the board edges and more so to the pastedowns and free endpapers. Some quite light browning to the margins of half a dozen preliminary and concluding leaves. Former owner name neatly inked to the head of the front free endpaper, and also to the rear pastedown (this last obscured by the wrapper flap). A good copy in non-price-clipped dust wrapper, the publisher's laminate lifting a little in places as is common, with two short closed tears, some discolouration to the extreme edges and a narrow strip of tape residue to the fore edge of the front panel. Wrapper flaps browned and exhibiting a further strip of tape residue marking. A decent copy of Stoppard's debut novel, published the same month as the very first performance of his celebrated play 'Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead' - at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Laid-in is a printed invitation card: "Tom Stoppard will be - At Home - at The Chelsea Physic Garden, 66 Royal Hospital Road, S.W.3, on Saturday September 13th, 1997 - between Noon and Sunset - R.S.V.P on enclosed card". The card is addressed in ink to Andrew Speed, who was the Assistant Stage Manager for the National Theatre premieres of Stoppard's plays 'Arcadia', 'The Invention of Love' and 'The Coast of Utopia' trilogy.. Book. Book Condition: Good. Binding: Hardcover. Jacket: Good
