Staple bound booklet, cardstock cover with black ink lettering. Clean and unchipped. 27 pages. "Limited to 1000 copies". This short, risque satire was first published anonymously in 1880. Twain did not acknowledge it until 1906. It is written as a diary entry of a lady-in-waiting to Queen Elizabeth, in which she relates a conversation between the Queen, her ladies, and several visiting authors, including Francis Bacon, William Shakespeare and Walter Raleigh. The main topics of conversation are flatulence and sex. This lampoon was first written as an exercise in the style of Rabelais. Its subject matter made it unpublishable until the 1960's.
