Original publisher's black and white engraved map of the Georgian and Society Islands which are known collectively today as the Windward group of the Society Islands in French Polynesia. This is a beautiful map that shows the islands and their names. Map with margins measures 8 3/8" x 5"; actual map area measures 6 7/8" x 4." Map is very clean and intact but has slight foxing. Lines of latitude and longitude also included. The Georgia Islands encompass the islands of Tahiti, Mo'orea (called "Eimeo" on map), and Maiao (labeled as Sir George Sanders or Tabuaemann Island). The Society Islands to the northwest include the islands of Raiatea, Taha'a, Huahine, Bora Bora, Tupai (labeled "Tubai" on map), and Maupiti (labeled "Maurua"). Beneath the map boundary or neatline is the following: "London: Published by H. Fisher Son & P. Jackon, 1829. Drawn & Engraved by J. & C. Walker." John Walker, Alexander Walker, and Charles Walker were draftsmen, engravers, and publishers collectively known as J & C Walker. The company was based in London and active from 1820-1895.. Map.
