In 1948 he was accused by Whitaker Chambers of being a former Communist aPart member and Soviet spy. he was convicted of the charges in 1950 and served three years of a ten year sentence. The case is seen as the beginning of the McCarthy Era. In this photograph shows a closeup of an older Hiss wearing a black suit and tie with a white shirt.
