Original typescript in black ink on white paper. Bound with two brass brads at top to brown-paper backing. Later published in Pacific [...], likely a magazine or newspaper. No date, circa 1920s-1950s. 8 1/2" x 11 3/4." Seventeen pages, complete. A few holograph corrections in pencil on some of the pages. Folded into thirds horizontally. Pages are very clean and intact but have some wrinkling, Backing has edge wear and a couple light stains and the bottom half of it is missing. Pages are Very Good. Backing is Good. A Very Good copy overall. Autobiographical essay by D. B. Ward, a pioneer of Salem, Oregon and Seattle, Washington. Includes a history of pioneers in the region, descriptions of Seattle, and brief references to some northwestern pioneers, such as John Denny, Thomas Mercer, James Campbell, Arthur A. Denny, L. M. Collins, Hillory Butler. In part of his story, Ward recollects seeing Chief Seattle after whom Washington's iconic city is named. Ward was married to Sarah I. Byles. Despite the printed date on the backing, this typescript may be a later transcription.. Manuscript. Book Condition: Very Good. Binding: No Binding
