Article is about one full-page, printed in quadruple columns, and written by the author during his tenure as President of the Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute, Tuskegee, Alabama. From the opening paragraph, "I had grown to be a good deal of a boy before I finally realized that it was possible for a negro to be educated. When I was a small boy, just large enough to lift a shovel or handle an adz, I was put to work in a salt furnace in Malden, West Virginia.
