Willard Waterman (1914-1995) was an American character actor who appeared on radio and TV and in movies. He is perhaps best-known for replacing fellow actor Harold Peary as the main character of the hit NBC radio show, The Great Gildersleeve. The Great Gildersleeve is a situational comedy about the eponymous Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve and his family and friends. Gildersleeve is noted for his memorable comedic lines and for being a pompous man, but at the beginning of the show, he is tasked with taking care of his orphaned niece and nephew. Gildersleeve was originally played by Harold Peary, but upon Peary's move to CBS in 1950, NBC hired Waterman as the new lead. Waterman continued acting in his role as Gildersleeve until the last episode of the radio show aired in 1958. Waterman also portrayed Gildersleeve in a TV spinoff of the same name in 1955..
