Watson, Duke : Original Publicity Photograph - Duke Watson

Original black-and-white celebrity portrait photograph of Duke Watson. Watson is shown in-character, likely in his role as a policeman in the film noir, Call Northside 777 (1948). Watson wears a vintage suit, tie, and hat with a wide-eyed expression on his face as he points with his right hand and, cigar in mouth, appears to say one of his character's lines. Signed and inscribed in blue pen by Watson with the quoted line, "I tell you what I'm going to do, I'm going to be your friend forever; Sincerely, Duke, 1949." 8" x 10." Brief inscriptions in pen on back name the actor and transcribe what Watson had written on front. Photograph is very clean and intact except for slightly bumped corners and a few small indentations on the front. A Near Fine copy. Duke Watson (1904-1978) was an American actor who is perhaps best-known for his roles in Call Northside 777 (1948), Where the Sidewalk Ends (1950), and The Big Trees (1952). Call Northside 777 is a newspaper drama based on a real story in which Chicago reporter P. J. McNeal proved the innocence of Joseph Majczek, who had been wrongfully convicted for the murder of a policeman in 1932. The movie starred James Stewart as McNeal and Richard Conte as Frank Wiecek, who is based on Majczek. Watson played the role of a policeman in this movie, but online sources do not confirm which police officer he was.. Photographic Image. Book Condition: Collectible-Near Fine (Near Fine).
