Thomas Y. Crowell, Boston

12mo. No date, circa 1898, 48pp, heavy textured cream cloth with gilt lettering and gilt and purple flower decoration at cover, soiling at edges, quarter-inch chip at spine tail, long gift inscription at front end-paper, in very scarce, plain, off-white paper dust jacket with black lettering at front panel, and ads at rear flap, minor chipping at edges, moderate to heavy soiling, now housed in protective Brodart. Miss Toosey's mission was to convert "heathen African natives" to Christianity. Originally published in 1878, this was apparently the author's first novel. Her writing style was praised as 'a study in English for its conciseness, simplicity, and elegance,' and her writing described as charming, pure and wholesome. She addressed religious themes in several of her works. Very scarce, early dust jacket.. Book. Book Condition: Good. Binding: Hardcover. Jacket: Fair
