Circa early 1940's. Original publicity printed photo, tinted. 5 X 7 inches. Whitley (1901-1979) was an American country and western singer, radio and Hollywood movie star. Whitley began his singing career in 1930. In 1937 he worked with Gibson to produce the famous Gibson SJ-200 acoustic guitar, which became an American icon and has been played by hundreds of different guitarists. Whitley made 59 movies, over 20 of them were short western musicals. Whitley also wrote the original song Back In The Saddle Again. In this printed photo, Whitley is sitting, wearing a white cowboy hat, an orange, black and white jacket, gray shirt and holding his guitar. This printed photo has his name printed on the photo..
