Original billhead printed in black ink on light beige paper. Also includes handwriting in black ink. Datelined October 21, 1879 in Sacramento, California. 8 1/2" x 7." Billhead is very clean and intact but light age toning, a few horizontal and vertical fold lines, two streaks running from about the upper-right corner to the center on front (affects text but text is still very readable), and a stain measuring 1" x 1 1/2" in lower-left corner on front (not affecting text). A Very Good copy. An original billhead from Whittier, Fuller & Company to Mr. N. S. Trobridge of Tybo. Trobridge bought two line items, glass and putty. The printed header reads, "Bought of Whittier, Fuller & Co., Manufacturers and Importers of Paints, Oils and Window Glass, Doors, Windows and Blinds, Wall Paper, Moldings, Etc. 28 K Street, Sacramento. 21 and 23 Front Street, San Francisco." Printed text in upper-left corner on front also reads, "Sold Agents for French and Belgian Plat Glass Cos, Window Glass, ... Crystal Sheet, 21 and 26 oz., Kunitz's Santa Cruz Glue, and Valentine's Coach Varnishes." Whitter, Fuller & Company was founded in 1868 after a merger between the businesses of William Franklin Whittier (1832-1919) and one of his former competitors, William Parma Fuller (1827-1890). The company became one of the most prominent businesses dealing in paints, oils, glass, and the like. Whittier, Fuller & Co. was the predecessor of W. P. Fuller & Co., the latter of which was bought out by the O'Brien Corporation in the 1970s. The resulting firm was renamed Fuller O'Brien Paints which was later sold to ICI Paints in 1995.. Ephemera.
