In 1956 the firm of Playcraft Toys introduced their first Corgi miniature vehicles.They had made such toys before, under the name of Mettoy,but these were few in number and their quality could not compare with that of Dinky Toys and other diecast cars then on the market.The Corgi line took it's name from the Welsh breed of dog because the Playcraft and Mettoy factories (the two were sister corporations then,and have since merged - then 1981) were located in Swansea,South Wales.
For most collectors,though,it is the earlier Corgis of the pre-1/36 scale era that are most interesting,and the book stresses them as they deserved to be stressed,and make this book a complete history of Corgi Toy's first twenty-five years.
Author's are model collecting authorities and enthusiasts,and this is their second book.
