Binding is tight. Faint sunning or offsetting on the front cover. Spine is lightly sunned. Tiny spot from dampstaining on the spine. The lower-right corner of the textblock has a dampstain, but it does not affect text. A Fine copy. Kate Douglas Wiggin (1856-1923) was an American teacher and author. She is best-known as a writer of children's books and for her kindergarten pedagogy. Wiggin founded the first free kindergarten in San Francisco, advocated for and supported the welfare of children during a time when child labor was common, and helped establish a network of kindergartens for low-income communities in both San Francisco and Oakland. Harold Mathews Brett (1880-1955) was an American painter and illustrator who was known for his scenes and portraits set in New England. His work appeared in different books and publications including Collier's Weekly, Harper's Weekly, and the Saturday Evening Post.
