The Mauretenia, was a British ocean liner launched from Liverpool to New York in 1907. At the time it was the largest and fastest ship in the world. It was used extensively during World War I, and after the war it returned to civilian service until 1934.

The Lusitania, the Mauretania's sister ship, was launched in 1907 as well from Liverpool to New York. During the War, the ship continued to serve as a luxury liner until Germany declared the waters around Britain a war zone and a U-Boat torpedoed the ship in 1915, sinking it.
