Text in Latin.
William Camden was a prominent English antiquarian and historian. In 1577, with the encouragement of Abraham Ortelius, William Camden began his great work ‘Britannia,’ a topographical and historical survey of all of Britain. The first edition was published in 1586. The work, which was written in Latin, was very popular, going into seven editions by 1607. ‘Britannia’ is a county-by-county description of Britain that relates landscape and geography with antiquarianism and history. In response to criticism published in 1594 by Ralph Brooke (‘Discovery of Errors’), this edition is the first to include a postscript (Kkk-Nnn4) which responds to these particular points.
