Collection of eighteen original letters to Colonel William E. Van Wyck from eleven different correspondents. Printed and handwritten text on white and beige paper. Multiple dates from 1867-1897. Letters measure between about 5" x 4 3/4" and 8 1/2" x 11." Each letter is clean and intact overall except for light age toning, the occasional stain, fold lines, and slight splitting. Each letter and the entire collection are Very Good. These brief letters are about two different organizations Van Wyck belonged to, the New York State National Guard, 2nd Brigade and the New York Athletic Club. Twelve of the letters pertain to the New York State National Guard and include eight different signatories, various National Guard officials. Two of the twelve letters are printed. Most of the National Guard letters are about routine business within the organization. The remaining six letters in the collection relate to the New York Athletic Club. Of these six letters, four are from Charles Peverelly, editor of Aquatic Monthly and the Nautical Review. In his letters, Peverelly asks for press releases and subscriptions.. Manuscript.
