"...to behold its unhappy inmates (Surely the way of the transgressor is hard) I passed through the various Work Shops both of men and women the women where employed in making Segars, the men in Workin Iron, Wood and Leather & the largest number of Workmen where Shoe Makers. negroes and Whites all together.
