William Hayley (1745-1820), poet who composed an ‘Ode on the Birth of the Prince of Wales’ that was published in the Cambridge Collection and reprinted in the “Gentleman’s Magazine’ in 1763. In 1781 Hayley published his most successful poem, ‘The Triumphs of Temper’, which ran through twelve or fourteen editions. In 1785 he published the ‘Essay on Old Maids’, one of his few still readable works. (DNB 295)., (DNB 295).
