The Pennsylvania Dutch, or Pennsylvania Germans, are German people who settled in Pennsylvania. Most of the first Pennsylvania Dutch immigrants came from German-speaking territories in what are now modern-day Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and the Alsace-Lorraine region of France during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The Pennsylvania Dutch originally called themselves, "Deitsch," which was eventually turned into, "Dutch."
