William S. Hart, Sr. is best-known for his starring roles in Western silent films of the 1910s and 1920s and was a prominent film actor in his time. William S. Hart, Jr. went on to champion his father's legacy and also worked for the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the forerunner of the CIA, during World War II and became a professor of business and finance classes at UCLA, USC, and Santa Monica College. The following are brief descriptions of the letters contained in this collection which are demarcated by date: Sept. 22, 1949, Santa Monica, CA. Two pages. Addressed to John Ford, a director of Western movies, in Hollywood, CA. In this letter, William S. Oct. 16, 1949, Santa Monica. Two copies. One page each. Addressed "To Whom it may concern." Hart writes about how he had returned from war service to Horseshoe Ranch, his father's estate, only to find his father in ailing health and there being legal issues with the property.
