A highly important 19th century work on Shakespeare by Charles and Mary Victoria Cowden Clarke who were renowned 19th century editors and publishers of the works of Shakespeare. Mary was a compiler of concordance to Shakespeare ‘Complete Concordence of Shakespeare’ published in monthly parts 1844-45. Her works include the ‘Shakespeare Key’ c.1879 and ‘Recollections of Writers’ c.1878 written in collaboration with her husband. Charles was a lecture and friend John Keats.
