the boards are shelf rubbed, marked and worn. the book is foxed, especially on the early pages. the hinges have been repaired and the binding is strong. the book is complete with the colour map. for its age the book is in good condition. there are 2 small bookplates from a previous owner (David Sinclair) there is also the signature and date (1897)of Lionel Cripps who owned the book prior to it passing into Mr Sinclair's possession. Lionel Cripps was a colourful character in Rhodesian history.he was a trooper in the pioneer column and was the first farmer in Rhodesia to successfully farm tobacco. he was also instrumental in the formation of the Rhodesian Archives.he died in Umtali in 1950..
