A collection of two original postcards, one of which has a printed illustration of Squirrel Inn, Haines Falls, New York on front and a handwritten initialed annotation in black ink by William Winter on back. The other postcard is a photo postcard that shows a house at 1044 Kensington Road, Los Angeles, California. Title of "Squirrel Inn, Haines Falls, N. Y." printed at bottom of initialed postcard. The photo postcard is untitled. Both postcards were never mailed. Former owners' inscriptions on back of photo postcard not belonging to William Winter. No date on either postcard. The initialed postcard is circa 1900s. The photo postcard has a Velox stamp box (pattern of four diamonds in corners with "Place Stamp Here" text) on back circa 1907-1917. Both postcards: 5 1/2" x 3 1/2." Both postcards are very clean and intact overall except for slight edge wear and some age toning on front and back. Very Good copies. William Winter (1836-1917) was an American drama critic and author who was based in New York. He wrote a number of books about theater celebrities. On the postcard of Squirrel Inn, Winter has drawn an arrow pointing to one of the inn's upper windows on front and writes an accompanying caption on back, "The arrow points to the room selected for me by son of Mrs. R[--?]. I have expressed my thanks for their kind invitation but I cannot accept it. I cannot leave my work. W. W. [initials of William Winter]." The photo postcard of the Los Angeles house is identified by a pencil inscription on back which states its address at 1044 Kensington Road. This address appears to have a connection to Winter..
