Divided into 9 sections with subtopics within each including “History, ” “Jewish Life and Thought, ” “Participation in Cultural Life, ” and “Antisemitism. ” Includes foreword by Alfred Wiener, a German Jew who worked for a Jewish civil rights group and devoted his life to documenting the rise of antisemitism in Germany. Before fleeing Germany in 1933, Wiener “collected books, photographs, letters, magazines and other materials, including school primers and children’s games, recording the spread of Nazi propaganda and its racist doctrines” (Wikipedia, 2016) . He founded the Jewish Central Information Office in London with his collection on September 1, 1939, the day the Nazis invaded Poland. During the war it was used as an intelligence agency, and after the war it functioned as a library. “The present Catalogue is designed to give a clear picture of the various phases of the history of German speaking Jews, before the Hitler regime put an end to its rich variety; their fight for emancipation, their religious and communal life, their many organisations, youth and welfare work, thought and learning, their role in Zionism and their ideological controversies. ” Catalogue Series No. 3.
