Collection of three original billheads and one original Statement. Billheads printed in black ink on light beige paper with handwriting in black ink and Statement printed in black ink on yellow paper with handwriting in pencil. The beige billheads each have a small black-and-white illustration of a horse seeming to break through the paper in a trompe l'oeil effect. Billheads and Statement datelined with multiple dates 1900 in Sacramento, California. Billhead dates: June 27, July 9, and August 11. Statement date: June 30. Billheads range in size between 8 1/4" x 4" and 8 1/4" x 4 1/2." Statement: 5 1/4" x 8 1/4." Billheads and Statement are very clean and intact overall except for light age toning, a few horizontal and vertical fold lines, slight wear to extremities, the occasional small mark, and a paper stub tipped in at right or bottom edge on back. Each billhead, the Statement, and the entire collection are Very Good. A collection of three original billheads and one original Statement from A. A. Van Voorhies & Company of Sacramento, California to Frank Kunsting of Franklin, California. Kunsting bought one or two line items on each billhead. Among the items purchased were "Pads," "Lashes," and "4 1/2 yds. 40" #6 Duck." The Statement has multiple transactions with the description, "To Mdse.," for June 1900. The printed header on the yellow billhead reads, "Bought of A. A. Van Voorhies & Co., Wholesale Manufacturers, Harness, Saddles, &c. Dealers in Shoe Findings... Carriage Trimmings, Saddlery Hardware. &c." The printed header on each of the beige billheads reads, "Bought of A. A. Van Voorhies, Manufacturers & Importers of Saddles, Harness, Horse Clothing, Saddlery Hardware, Whips, Carriage Trimmings, Etc., 322 and 324 J Street.; Collars, Robes, Leather and Shoe Findings." The printed header on the Statement reads, "To A. A. Van Voorhies & Co., Dr., 322 and 324 J Street." A. A. Van Voorhies & Company was a Sacramento-based saddlery founded by A. A. Van Voorhies (1853-?) and a business partner, R. Stone, in 1869. Van Voorhies eventually bought out Stone's share in the business in 1881. The beige billheads show the company was incorporated in 1891. A. A. Van Voorhies & Co. eventually became a leading saddlery in Sacramento. The company enjoyed many further decades of success until the late 1980s when it officially closed.. Ephemera. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good. Binding: No Binding
