C.H.Piquet, Paris., c.1845 but c.1848

Hand Colored in Outline, Very Good, Size : 925x624 (mm), 36.40x24.55 (Inches)

A superb example of Brue\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s large map of Upper California, Texas and Mexico. With bright and vivid hand colouring, the paper is in great shape with no browning. The map first appeared in 1834 and then revised in 1837, 1939, 1840, 1845 and 1848. Wheat describes this map as “a most important…Brue’s map is one of the foundation stones of western mapping history.” The map depicts the first attempt to show the route of Jedidiah Smith. Equally important map of Texas, naming Austin and depicting a few roads and some other pre-republic details. Although the map is dated 1845, this example is the revised edition of 1848. Here, Texas, New Mexico and Upper California are depicted as part of the United States.
