Bücherl, W., and others (editors) : Venomous Animals and Their Venoms. Volumes I and II: Venomous Vertebrates

(New York and London, Academic Press, 1968 and 1971)

2 volumes 8vo; original grey cloth with gilt-on-red title on spine in each case; dustwrappers rather soiled and worn (that of Volume I especially so); pp. xxiv + 707, xxiv + 687; illustrated with graphs, tables, maps, diagrams, line drawings and black-and-white photographs; scattered light foxing. Dustwrappers notwithstanding, very good condition overall. These first two books in a three-volume series are devoted to the venomous vertebrates, whereas the missing volume covers invertebrates. "The contributors discuss the structure and function of the venom producing and delivering apparatus, as well as the chemical, biochemical, pharmacological, and toxicological properties of the venoms. Also considered are the medical aspects of the exposure to venoms, the description of clinical symptoms, pathological findings, and therapeutic procedures including the production and use of antisera. Zoologists, taxonomists, toxicologists, chemists, biochemists, and others concerned with venomous animals will find this work indispensable."
