Some occasional light foxing. Foldout map preceding p1. All 40 indexed illustrations are present with additional un-indexed plates: p186 'Chasing Haris Bucks'; p372 ' An African Serenade'; p424 ' Narrow Escape'. The plate from p424 is gilt stamped to the front board. Gilt ttling to spine faded but clearly readable. Mendelssohn pp73-74 lists this as 'second edition' although there is no reference to indicate this on the copyright page. 'During the last three years of Baldwin's wanderings, he joureyed over from 12,000 to 15,000 miles of country, and becoming at last somewhat weary of his vagrant life, he made up his mind that it was "nearly time to call a halt.' Mr Baldwin's experiences are written in a simple and un-ostentatious manner, but he went through more adventures than almost any other of the great South African travellers and hunters.
