Former owner's ink inscription on the front flyleaf dated Christmas 1891. Maturin Ballou (1820-1895) was a prolific writer and publisher from Boston, Mass. He co-founded 'Gleason's Pictorial' and was the first editor of the 'Boston Daily Globe'. This volume is one in a series of travel books he wrote during the 1870s and 1880s.
