This discourse was originally delivered on December 13, 1827 by Joseph Blunt before the New York Historical Society. Joseph Blunt (1792-1860) was an American author, editor, lawyer, and politician. He served as New York County's district attorney from 1858-1860. His father, Edmund March Blunt, published Nathaniel Bowditch's famous nautical work, the American Practical Navigator, in 1802.. Book.
