UK,slim 12mo HB,minus dw/dj,1st edn.No owner inscrptn,but from top to bottom of the vertical edges of both boards' pastedowns,a narrow (approx 3/4" wide) strip of transparent,hardened and crackled,adhesive glue residue,and a couple of possible sellotape ghosting residual marks to the same pastedowns.Publisher's original cloth boards with bumped corners,head and foot of spine/backstrip and some sunning to some edges of front+back boards and some overall fading to a - not original - pale blue with negligible shelf-wear or creasing to edges and corners - no major nicks,tears or splits present.Much of blocked gilt lettering to front board is not oxidised and is visible,whereas the gilt to the dulled spine/backstrip has a degree of oxidisation,but not completely.A blue/black ink spot covers the 'EV' letters of publisher's name (EVANS) at foot of same,whilst a small, blue/black ink splash with an extended horizontal line (approx 2.3/4" long) towards bottom edge Top edges toned/aged but fore-edges although inevitably aged are much brighter; contents bright,tight,clean,solid and sound - near pristine - no foxing/spotting and no intentional dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corners - though a small accidental corner creases to top corners of pp211-214 - else appears unread - apart from my own collation.UK,slim 12mo HB,minus dw/dj,1st edn, 11-224pp [paginated] includes 25 chapters,a mixture of 11 part+full page b/w line illustrations - all by Paul Beigel - all called for and present,throughout the text and the book; plus [unpaginated] half-title+title pages,a dedication,separate contents and illustrations lists/tables.
An uncommon example in true 1st edn state - albeit without dw/dj - as more,but not many subsequent later issues,some obviously,with dw/dj are available.Very few true 1st edns, particularly with dw/dj.
