BUTLER, Samuel. HUDIBRAS, in three parts. written in the time of the late wars. With large annotations and a preface, by Zachary Grey. In two volumes. London: Printed by T. Bensley, for Vernor and Hood, [et al.], 1801. Illustrated with sixteen engraved plates after Hogarth by Ridley (dated Dec., 1798), one of which is a folding plate, a frontispiece portrait in Vol. 1, and with wood-engraved head- and tail-pieces, of which at least one is by Charlton Nesbit. Vol. 1: lii,436 pp. Vol. 2: 446 pp., + [18] pp. index and adv. Title-pages and sectional t.p. are not counted in pagination. Two octavo volumes bound by Root & Son in speckled full calf, with gilt-lettered spine labels and all edges stained yellow. Bindings are sunned at spines and heavily rubbed at joints, which are a bit tender. However, the text leaves and plates are very clean and quite fresh.
