Original billhead on beige paper with printed text in black ink. No date, circa 1883-1886 (blank fill-in date of "188_"). Location is Logan City, Arizona Territory ("A. T."). 4 3/4" x 8 1/2." Billhead is very clean and intact. Minuscule wrinkling and marks at the top. A Fine copy. Billhead is blank and unused. The printed letterhead reads, "C. S. Shotwell & Co., Dealers in Gent's Furnishing Goods, Groceries, Tinware, Hardware, Crockery, Etc." C. S. Shotwell was a pioneer and grocer in Logan City. The Arizona Territory (AT) was formed from the western half of the New Mexico Territory during the Civil War in 1863 and existed until Arizona became a state in 1912. In 1883, Logan City was established as a boomtown in Pima County, AT upon the discovery of silver in the Quijotoa Mountains. However, the boom was short-lived and ended in 1886, which prompted residents to leave Logan City. Logan City was named after John T. Logan and William R. Logan, two partners of the Logan Townsite and Well Company. The company's other partners included George J. Roskruge and James T. Shotwell (of possible relation to C. S. Shotwell).. Ephemera. Original billhead on beige paper with printed text in black ink. Datelined 1885 in "Logan [Logan City], Arizona [Arizona Territory]." 8 1/2" x 6 3/4." Billhead is very clean and intact overall except for a small tear and chip near the left edge. Billhead is blank and unused. The printed letterhead reads, "[Customer] Bought of C. S. Shotwell & Co., Dealers in General Merchandise, Fancy and Staple Groceries, Crockery and Glassware." The following is also printed: "Bills Payable First of each Month." The printer is listed as "Daily Tailing Job Print, Tuscon." C. S. Shotwell was a pioneer and grocer in Logan City.
