Original publisher's beige paper wrappers bound with string placed about center near spine. Text printed in black ink. Printed by J. T. Buckingham. 5 3/4" x 9 1/4." Nineteen pages, complete. Pages are somewhat fragile. Former owner's signature in black ink in top margin on front. Pages are very clean and intact except for darkening on front and back, light age toning throughout, faint dampstaining along fore-edge and bottom edge, and a few small spots of discoloration. A Good copy. This is a sermon that was originally given by William Ellery Channing on September 19, 1814 in Boston. In his sermon, Channing addresses the War of 1812 and the hardships it has brought such as the trade blockades, war casualties, and American soldiers being forced into British enlistment. Channing also instructs and reassures listeners or readers amid the tumult and unrest of the war. He advises listeners or readers that they should be penitent, pray, have patriotism, do public good, and have "fortitude, courage, and resolution." William Ellery Channing (1780-1842) was an American Unitarian preacher and theologian. He was one of the leading figures of Unitarianism during the early nineteenth century. He was also the grandson of William Ellery (1727-1820), one of the signatories to the Declaration of Independence.. Book. Book Condition: Very Good. Binding: Soft cover
