Published in a small and limited print run of 500 copies only. Poster size is 18 X 24 inches. It is eminently suitable for framing. Printed on thick coated stock paper in Chicago, Illinois to the highest standards. Published on the occasion of the artist/photographer's inaugural exhibition in the United States held at The Stephen Daiter Gallery Chicago in 1989. Presents Luis Gonzalez Palma's "La Luna, 1989". One of his most iconic images and earliest masterpieces. Shows a woman with a carved crescent-moon tied around her neck virtually covering her face. The poetic and erotic associations of the Moon with Woman are universal. As beautiful as the image is, Gonzalez Palma is also alluding to its more oppressive side in the larger context of Latin-American post-colonial, "macho" culture and society, where women, while outnumbering men, continue to be treated as though they were a minority, and remain subject to the obsolete standards of morality that a male-dominated, colonialist society seeks to perpetuate. The Guatemalan artist/photographer is now regarded as one of the most brilliant Latin-American artist/photographers of our time, whose work is widely represented and well-known throughout the world. The late Nobel Laureate Gabriel Garcia Marquez used another image, "La Rosa", for the cover of his great novel, "Of Love And Other Demons". "Gonzalez Palma's images unfold with increasing significance, resulting in an underlying sense of tension and foreboding that is only slightly eased by their sheer loveliness" (A. D. Miller).
