Deed Indenture Manhattan New York County William Ogilvy to John Dunham NYC

Old folds. 55' x 22' corner parcel bounded by Cherry and Corlears Streets on the South and East respectively. Corlears School still exists in this area of the Lower East Side, where Corlears Street is now a park and playground between a NYC Port Authority building and two housing authority buildings. Revolutionary War ship merchant Peter Olgilvie died in 1855, leaving this parcel in the seventh ward to his son, William H. Olgilvie, who sold it via this indenture deed to John Dunham in 1856. Cherry Street at Corlears at that time was on the riverfront and within the Corlears Hook Section of the Lower East Side (LES) of Manhattan, New York City. At the time of transfer, what had once been a profitable and safe area of the riverfront was sliding into disrepute, crime, and depravity. Ultimately, the city government cleared out the Irish mob run area by raising the buildings and building public housing there, which stand to this day; as well as dumping land fill to extend the water front for the future FDR to run on top., Very Good
