"When the Post Office Dictionary was published in 1959, not one of us expected that it would be completely sold out in just over three years. While on the one hand this proves the urgent need of the Post Office staff and many other users of language, it also testifies to the striking qualities of the dictionary. Now, less than six years after the disappearance of this publication from the bookstalls, the Post Office Terminology Committee is offering a dictionary which, apart from being a completely revised edition, has also been supplemented with at least 8,000-9,000 new terms. The list of Foreign Place Names, of which Mr M. S. van Zyl is the author, has also been augmented by several hundred new names, while a large number, now obsolete, have been omitted. … Although the Post Office Dictionary is primarily intended to provide for the terminology requirements of the Post Office, I wish to emphasize that it can also be consulted to advantage for the English and Afrikaans technical terms in a wide field of subjects." - from the Preface to the Second Edition.
