an age-darkened spine/backstrip but capitalised, gilt blocked lettered title,author and publisher's colophon still visible though gilt has slight minimal oxidising,rear board plain and undecorated with a faint shelf-sunned narrow band to top+fore-edges.Front hinge with 5/8" central tear,rear hinge with a pair of similar sized splits but majority of each intact - rear free endpaper with corner crease leaving a fold impression to its preceding page which also has a corner tip crease but of a smaller size. Negligible shelf-wear to edges and corners - no nicks,tears,splits or fraying,though both head+ foot of spine/backstrip with minimal,gentle pushing and reciprocal creases.Top edges coloured(?),fore-edges though aged/toned are virtually foxing/spotting-free; contents bright, tight,clean with just minimal page-edge toning and very litlle foxing to text block - no intentional dog-ear reading creases.UK,8vo HB, 1st edn,v-xiipp+2-1008pp [paginated] includes author's Preface,contents list/table,b/w maps+ plans list/table,a fold-out,attached (1 of 11) b/w map,LXV (65) chapters,other b/w tipped-in mapor battl plans maps etc.,totalling 44 separate pages,and an Index; plus [unpaginated] half-title+title pages and to the rear,2pp pubisher's advert for author's other published work.
Visually the exterior appearance is more than acceptable,and even internally,the book is also in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation for a book of its age. It is only the faults that prevents a slightly higher grading Despite them,it really is an acceptable copy for its cleanliness, brightness and completeness.
A revised edition of 'British Campaigns in France and Flanders',enlarged to include the Italian & Salonika campaigns.Particularly of note are the references to the brigade/ divisional viewpoint with frequent mention of those formations and those units engaged; with excellent b/w maps and frequent mentions of the casualty figures involved.
