The Harvard Wake. No 5, spring, 1946

8vo. Card wrappers, tanned at the spine panel and with a large area of staining to the rear wrapper, which also impacts the fore edge margin (only) of a score of text leaves, and the margins of the photographic portrait of Cummings. A good, bright copy. Cummings contributes the first printing of his four-page story 'The Old Man who said "Why?"', the first printing of an untitled poem which begins "love our so right", and his ten-page morality play 'Santa Claus', also hitherto unprinted. Other noteworthy contributors of tributes and testimonials include William Carlos Williams, Marianne Moore, Allan Tate, Paul Rosenfeld, Lionel Trilling, John Dos Passos and Fairfield Porter (writing on 'The Paintings of E.E.Cummings'). This issue also contains the first published work by Robert Creeley (his poem 'Return'). This was the final issue of 'The Harvard Wake' to be so-called (for future issues the title was shortened to just 'Wake'). Firmage B140.. Book. Book Condition: Fair. Binding: Soft cover
