His use of the Polaroid camera is arresting precisely because the images have a visceral presence and are un-mediated, unlike Rickard's ground-breaking and celebrated digital work thus far. Still, what has been written about him as a street photographer remains true about "All Eyes On Me": "He focusses on places in the United States where unemployment is high and educational opportunities are few. On a virtual road trip, Rickard locates these sites remotely using the Street View feature of the website Google Maps, which has mapped and photographed every street in the country. Scrutinizing the Google Maps pictures, he composes images on his computer screen, which he then photographs using a digital camera. The resulting pictures comment on poverty and racial inequality in the United States, the bounty of images on the web, and issues of personal privacy" (The Museum of Modern Art/MOMA). These Polaroids are intimate street photographs, and the title alludes to the hip-hop performing artist Tupac Shakur's "All Eyez On Me". An absolute "must-have" title for Doug Rickard collectors.
