First Edition (first printing). 8vo. 320pp. Blue cloth lettered in black at the spine and upper board. Cloth marked and chafed, some considerable indications of moisture damage to the upper board. Some quite light spotting to the edges, and the binding a little tender at the title page. The half-title spotted and with some occasional marginal soiling, spotting and finger marking. Several inkstamped numerals to the front pastedown and a Cummins Institute inkstamp to the half-title. Remnants of the dust wrapper adhered to the front endpaper and pastedown. A pretty rotten copy of the author's most uncommon first novel (one of the first fictional works to predict the invention of the atomic bomb and its consequences, although Ambler's understanding of the science is about as shonky as my own).
