Written between 1956-57 and first published in Columbia in 1961, this English-language translation was first used for the 1968 US edition (the first of the author's books to be translated into English), and also used for this UK edition (which was the second of his books to be published in the UK, following 'One Hundred Years of Solitude' a year earlier)..
