This report is about petitioners Simon Forrester, David D. Pulsifer, and Boardman and Pope and others who had petitioned for remittance or financial compensation for goods imported from British settlements beyond the Cape of Good Hope that were affected by the War of 1812 or events related to the war. India, controlled by Britain at the time, and Calcutta are named in the report. Much of the report cites individual claims about ships and imported goods affected by the "non-importation act" the United States government had passed as a form of economic warfare against Britain and France. "Non importation act" is referred to several times in this report; it is likely that at least one of these instances refers to the Non-Importation Act of 1806 which forbade the import of any British goods into the U.S. with the intention of deterring Britain from the continued impressment (kidnapping) of American sailors and its infringement upon U.S. sovereignty. The Non-Importation Act and others like it were mostly ineffective (a few of which crippled the U.S. economy) and contributed to the onset of the War of 1812.. Book. Book Condition: Very Good. Binding: No Binding
